Sinds enkele jaren is het het modewoord &#8222;bosbaden&#8220;: geestelijke en lichamelijke verfrissing, geheel zonder zeep, shampoo en water. In Japan is Shinrin Yoku een door de staat erkende methode voor preventie en gezondheidszorg.<\/p>\n<p>De oprichter van Shinrin Yoku is Qing Li, professor en milieuarts aan de Nippon Medical School in Tokio. Hij heeft ontdekt dat tijd doorbrengen in het bos het aantal natural killer cellen verhoogt die kankercellen en virussen bestrijden. Zo wordt ons immuunsysteem op natuurlijke wijze versterkt. Hij stuurde een groep het bos in en liet een andere groep in de stad blijven. Hoe dichter we bij het bos wonen of in het bos wandelen, hoe beter de stressverwerking in de hersenen functioneert.<\/p>\n<p>Maar hoe doen de bomen dit?<\/p>\n<p>Verantwoordelijk hiervoor zijn de terpenen (bestanddelen van etherische oli\u00ebn) en andere aromatische stoffen die het bos in de lucht afgeeft. De bomen produceren ze om zich te beschermen tegen insecten en bacteri\u00ebn.
